Sent the observation and the sign idea through DriveTest's customer service form. Got an auto-reply with a reference number and a note that feedback is forwarded to the centre manager. I'll follow up in two weeks, and in the meantime I'm asking two driving instructors whether they see the same confusion at other centres so this isn't about one location.

G2 road tests: nobody tells you where to wait, so people miss their slot

At the DriveTest centre for my G2 test, the check-in kiosk prints a slip that says "wait to be called" but not where. About a dozen of us stood between the parking lot and the front doors guessing. Examiners came out calling names from the far end of the lot, and two people in my time slot didn't hear theirs and were told to rebook, which right now means waiting weeks for another date. The only instructions on site were a laminated sheet taped inside a window.
The change
A numbered waiting zone in the lot with one small sign per lane: "Road tests: wait here, your examiner will come to your car." The check-in slip should print the zone number and an estimated wait. Better still, a text message when your examiner is on the way would remove the guessing entirely, and the booking system already has everyone's phone number.
Needs
Someone at DriveTest or the Ministry of Transportation who owns the centre experience, and a couple of driving instructors who can confirm whether this happens at other centres too.
